RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Experts from across North Carolina are convening in Raleigh to review what the study of rocks and stone artifacts reveal about early man.

The lithics conference will be held Saturday at the Nature Research Center at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences. Experts will examine research in the Uwharrie National Forest in Stanly and Montgomery counties.

While the mountains date back millions of years, the geologist and archaeologists at the conference will focus on 10,000 years ago.

In addition, part of what’s called the Oshnock collection will be on display. The collection that once belonged to brothers Jim and Bob Oshnock was donated to the N.C. Office of State Archaeology. The collection contains Paleo-Indian artifacts from Wake, Harnett and Franklin counties.
