SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A 29-year-old Salt Lake City man has been charged in the beating death of a childhood friend earlier this month.

Robert Munoz was charged Thursday in 3rd District Court with aggravated murder and robbery.

According to charging documents, Munoz said he beat 27-year-old Michael Ramirez with a “large Taser-flashlight tool” because Ramirez showed disrespect and refused to lend him any money.

Munoz is accused of taking the victim’s wallet. Police say they later found the wallet without any money in Munoz’s bedroom.

The victim’s father said Ramirez left home with $1,400 cash.

The beating occurred at the home where Munoz lived with his mother, and his mother found Ramirez in the garage.

An autopsy showed he died of blunt force trauma to the head.
