MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont House’s approval this week of earned-time-off legislation is winning praise from the White House.
Valerie Jarrett, a top aide to President Barack Obama, sent out a congratulatory tweet on Friday, a day after the House passed the bill.
An aide to House Speaker Shap Smith says Jarrett also called Smith to offer her thanks and praise to him.
The bill, which now goes to the Senate, calls for workers to be given up to three days off at first - later growing to five each year - for illness, illness in the family or for issues of personal safety in domestic violence situations.
