FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - One person is dead after a high-speed chase ended when the driver being chased hit a tree.

Authorities say a Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to contact the driver of vehicle that was blocking an intersection and three people got out of the car.

The driver took off and hit speeds in excess of 100 mph early Sunday, eventually losing the deputy.

Fort Collins police said in a statement the vehicle lost control and went into the center median, hitting a cement pillar. The driver continued west and hit two small trees and a bus stop before coming to rest against a large tree.
