KIRKLAND, Ill. (AP) - Two Chicago Bears players have visited with residents recovering from the tornado that tore through a tiny northern Illinois community this month.

The Rockford Register Star reports (https://bit.ly/1JpxT5z ) that tight end Blake Annen and defensive end Will Sutton visited tornado victims and helped with cleanup efforts Friday in Fairdale.

The April 9 storm killed two people in the community of about 150 people.

Annen said seeing the damage up close was “surreal.”

The Bears have donated $100,000 to a fund established by the United Way of Rock River Valley to help tornado victims.

United Way President and CEO Paul Logli says the money will go toward long-term recovery, explaining that as people rebuild their lives there will be “unmet needs that will extend on for months.”
