BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - There’s a new push to start 10 new sled hockey programs across the country.

The initiative was announced in Buffalo Friday in advance of the IPC Ice Sled hockey World Championships being played there beginning Sunday. It’s a partnership between USA Hockey, Labatt USA and sportscaster John Buccigross, who say there’s a growing demand for the sport among amputees and others with disabilities.

Labatt, along with Buccigross, plan to raise funds through advertising and promotions, while USA Hockey will oversee creation of the new sled hockey programs.

Organizers say they hope to raise $250,000 the first year to cover the cost of sleds, sticks, ice-time and other expenses.
