CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a retired New Jersey police officer illegally sold prescription pills to an undercover detective.

Bergen County prosecutors say 43-year-old Gines Rodriguez, a Pompton Lakes resident who served on the Paterson force, faces drug and weapons charges.

Rines allegedly sold suspected Oxycodone pills to an undercover detective late last month. Authorities then arranged another drug buy on Wednesday and arrested Rines that night.

Authorities say Rines had three handguns and various drugs when he was arrested.

A telephone number for Rines could not be located Sunday, and it wasn’t known if he has retained an attorney.
