MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Federal Highway Administration has given the Vermont Agency of Transportation an award for environmental excellence.
The award announced this past week came in the area of Excellence in Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience.
The transportation agency has been working closely with the Agency of Natural Resources to repair the state’s roads and bridges with river science more in mind, especially since much of the state’s infrastructure was damaged or destroyed by flooding from Tropical Storm Irene in2011.
Transportation officials say they’ve continued to keep water quality and climate change resilience at the center of their attention as they plan and build new projects.
