NEW YORK (AP) - A man has been rescued after his boat capsized on the Great South Bay off Long Island.
Douglas Hassell was picked up by a towboat captain shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday as he sat atop the overturned hull of his 1987 20-foot Sportcraft outboard boat.
Suffolk County Police say county officers responded along with a U.S. Coast Guard vessel from Station Fire Island.
Police say Hassell was operating the boat west of Robert Moses Causeway in Babylon when he noticed it was rapidly taking on water.
They say he radioed for help and called TowBoat US, a commercial salvage company that arrived first on the scene.
The 51-year-old West Islip man was uninjured and refused medical attention after he was taken aboard a police vessel and brought to Babylon Cove.
