JUDGE TO HEAR FROM ATTORNEY GENERAL’S ATTORNEYS

Judge William Carpenter initially ordered Attorney General Kathleen Kane to explain whether she had committed contempt of court by firing an assistant prosecutor who testified in a court-ordered investigation into allegations that Kane’s office leaked secret information. But now the judge will hear arguments by Kane’s lawyers who say the firing didn’t violate the judge’s earlier order not to retaliate against witnesses in the investigation.

PHILADELPHIA MOM CHARGED WITH LOCKING KIDS IN BASEMENT AS PUNISHMENT

Police say the woman will face four counts of endangering the welfare of a child and other offenses after authorities rescued the children ages 9 to 13 Sunday. Firefighters broke into the home after one of the kids used a cellphone to dial 911.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has refused to ban electronic communication in Pennsylvania courtrooms, so county judges will be the judge as to whether they can be used during trials and hearings.

MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER IN PHILADELPHIA OFFICER’S SHOOTING

William Nobblen, 35, of west Philadelphia will also face aggravated assault, firearms and related counts. Police say he shot Officer Daniel Kostick in the arm when the officer and a partner approached a van where they believed drugs were being used.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS IDLED BY PLAYOFF LOSS, BUT SIDNEY CROSBY PLAYS ON

The Penguins star has been added to Canada’s roster for the upcoming world hockey championship. The move gives the Canadian team a boost as it seeks to win its first gold medal since 2007. The Penguins were eliminated by the New York Rangers four games to one in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
