MUKILTEO, Wash. (AP) - It’s unclear how long a roughly 25-foot sailboat will remain on a Mukilteo beach after breaking loose and washing ashore.

The Daily Herald newspaper of Everett reports (https://is.gd/nByL8V ) that the vessel washed up about a week ago, and it’s become a popular backdrop for photos by gawkers as it rests awkwardly on its hull and keel.

The sailboat has a registration sticker that’s valid through June, but so far there’s been no sign the owner plans to reclaim it. The Coast Guard said it considers removing the boat a salvage operation, which means it’s the state Department of Natural Resources’ problem.

The DNR has disposed of more than 500 abandoned boats since 2006.
