HILLSBORO, N.D. (AP) - Formal charges are pending against the driver of a car hit by a train in Traill County.

The collision happened about 11:30 p.m. Sunday when the car became stuck on the tracks north of Hillsboro.

Sheriff’s Capt. Tony Ernst tells KFGO radio (https://bit.ly/1QAHkkz ) that the two people in the car were able to escape before it was hit by a BNSF Railway freight train and pushed several hundred feet. A 27-year-old female passenger was taken to a Grand Forks hospital with unspecified injuries that authorities said were not life-threatening.

The 26-year-old Fargo man who was behind the wheel was arrested on multiple charges including driving under the influence.
