BOULDER CITY, Nev. (AP) - Construction to extend Lake Mead boat launch ramps will begin mid-May to account for record low water levels.

KLAS-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1Jv6bo8 ) that the Bureau of Reclamation is projecting Lake Mead’s elevation will decline to a record low of 1,073 feet by the end of June. Launch ramps need to be extended to maintain access to the lake.

During construction, portions of the ramps will be closed, but at least one lane will remain open at all locations.

Officials say the best launch ramps for deep water are Echo Bay, Callville Bay and Boulder Harbor. Smaller boats should launch from Hemenway Harbor, Temple Bar and South Cove.

Construction should be complete by July 31.
