Family says Georgia man missing after Nepal earthquake

DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia man is missing after a catastrophic earthquake rocked Nepal, killing more than 2,500 people.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution (https://on-ajc.com/1A3BVIs ) reports 71-year-old Martin Emanuel, a sculptor and former faculty member of the Atlanta College of Art, was on a trekking expedition in the Langtang National Park area, north of Kathmandu, when the quake hit Saturday. He was traveling with a Nepali guide. Family says they haven’t heard from Emanuel since Thursday.

Emanuel’s wife says she is optimistic her husband is alive and communication in usually difficult in Nepal.

The magnitude 7.8 earthquake is the worst to hit the Himalayan nation in more than 80 years. The quake destroyed infrastructure and historic sites in Kathmandu and was felt across parts of India, Bangladesh, Tibet and Pakistan.
