RONKONKOMA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a police officer has been injured in an early morning crash on the Long Island Expressway.

It happened at about 4:45 a.m. Monday near Exit 60 in Ronkonkoma.

Police say the highway patrol officer was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital. His condition wasn’t immediately known but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Police say the officer was in the area to direct traffic at a construction site overnight when a tractor trailer struck his patrol car.

Eastbound lanes in the area are closed while authorities investigate.
