DORAL, Fla. (AP) - Police are searching for a driver who they say struck and killed a disabled man crossing the street in Florida.

WSVN-TV (https://bit.ly/1EagoSq ) reports Rudy Aponte, who has cerebral palsy, was struck and killed early Sunday in a Miami suburb. Police say a dark-colored vehicle hit him and sped away from the scene. Aponte was walking with a friend and had almost made it across the street and onto a sidewalk when the vehicle hit him.

Police say the area of roadway Aponte was killed on is well-lit and the driver should have seen him. The impact threw Aponte into a fence, killing him instantly.

Police are looking for a dark vehicle with extensive front-end damage.
