NASSAU, N.Y. (AP) - A state transportation official says New York will spend more than $7 million to rebuild three bridges outside Albany as part of program to replace spans in flood-prone areas.
Department of Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald says work has begun on the $7.7 million project to replace three bridges carrying Route 20 over Kinderhook Creek in the Rensselaer County town of Nassau, 15 miles southeast of Albany.
McDonald says the bridges are among the first under contract as part of the state’s Scour Critical/Flood Prone Bridge Program. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has requested $518 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to strengthen 105 bridges through its Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
Last month, the DOT announced that four bridges on Interstate 87 in Clinton County will be replaced under the same program.
