GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) - A rescuer on mission to recover a missing kayaker from an Alabama creek has drowned along with the kayaker.

The Gadsden Times (https://bit.ly/1dioWxH) reports 46-year-old Vicky Ryan died Saturday night in Gadsden while aiding in a search and rescue for a kayaker who capsized in a rain-swollen creek.

The body of 25-year-old Dakota Brett Crandall was recovered Sunday. Crandall was killed after he was swept out of his kayak while attempting to go over an artificial waterfall in Big Wills Creek Saturday morning.

Ryan was in one of two Etowah County Rescue Squad boats that capsized near the waterfall during the search for Crandall Sunday. Nine rescuers were pulled from the water. Several were taken to the hospital.

Ryan was pronounced dead Saturday night.
