CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire tourism officials say a proposal to cut the state’s tourism budget will significantly reduce state funding and hurt local businesses.
The Eagle Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1EIZspl ) the House Finance Committee recommended cutting New Hampshire’s tourism budget by nearly $3.8 million. Gov. Maggie Hassan had requested $4.7 million for the each of the next two years.
Margaret Joyce, administrator for the New Hampshire Travel Council, says the state depends on the rooms and meals tax.
She says drawing people to the state’s natural attractions will prove difficult.
House Finance Committee member Kenneth Weyler says he wishes more money could go to tourism promotion and other programs, but added almost everyone has had to cut back. He says he hopes private industry can boost tourism.
