WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - The White Plains police department hopes to have all of its uniformed officers equipped with body cameras by the fall.

The police department says it plans to spend $80,000 to buy 50 cameras, software and related technology.

Police Lieutenant Todd Moskalik told the Journal News (https://lohud.us/1KmWkOE ) that the cameras protect the integrity of the department by showing an entire incident, not just snippets caught on cell phones. Moskalik oversaw the department’s five-camera pilot program that began in July.

White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong says the cameras reaffirm the agency’s commitment to community policing and transparency.
