CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Work is underway on the first project of a planned $104 million revitalization of Charles Town.

City manager David Mills says the $4 million renovation of Charles Washington Hall is expected to be completed by late 2016.

Mills tells The Herald-Mail (https://bit.ly/1J38Z8p ) that the building will be the terminus of the planned $10 million Ranson-Charles Town Green Corridor.

The revitalization project also will include renovation of the old ABC building, two new buildings planned by American Public University System, a 16-screen movie complex and construction of the $16 million Powhatan Place Town Center on the site of a former foundry.

Mills says Charles Washington Hall was destroyed during the Civil War and rebuilt around 1870. The building is named for Charles Town’s founder and brother of President George Washington.
