WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia Division of Highways has awarded contracts to replace most of the lights on Interstates 70 and 470 between the borders with Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Three companies were awarded contracts totaling more than $12 million.

Acting DOH District 6 manager Gus Suwaid tells The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register(https://bit.ly/1KndZ8R ) that the project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2016.

Suwaid says most of the new lights will have LED bulbs. He says the LED bulbs last longer than conventional lighting.

He says the DOH also plans to replace lights on I-70 around the Wheeling Tunnel and on U.S. 250 between the I-470 and I-70 interchanges. The additional lighting will cost $1.5 million to $2 million.
