HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaii attorney general says a $10,000 fine has been paid in a fatal neglect case involving an 88-year-old woman at a Waipahu care home.
The attorney general’s office announced Thursday the woman who misrepresented providing care to Nona Mosman paid the fine. Prosecutors say Lolita Schimmel signed logs misrepresenting that she served as a caregiver for Mosman.
Care home operator Jennifer Polintan is serving a one-year prison sentence for manslaughter.
An investigation found that Polintan had another full-time job and wasn’t around to care for bedridden Mosman. Prosecutors say Mosman was left with people who weren’t qualified to care for her and that her health declined rapidly because of neglect.
Polintan’s father Francisco Polintan was also convicted in connection with Mosman’s death. His sentencing is scheduled for April 15.
