HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaiian Humane Society is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever left a badly burned dead animal on an Oahu road.

Honolulu news station Hawaii News Now (https://is.gd/QVzNaB) reports the animal was so badly disfigured when it was found in Salt Lake that it’s unclear if it was a cat or a small dog.

The animal was found late Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Ala Loke Street.

Humane Society investigator Vernon Ling says burning and torturing an animal is not only “heinous and cowardly,” but often can lead to bigger crimes.

A necropsy is planned to determine the cause of death and the kind of animal it was.

Authorities plan to review surveillance video from a nearby condominium.
