LOS ANGELES (AP) - Homicide investigators say a woman whose body was found in the Angeles National Forest last month was likely killed somewhere else and then dumped in the woods.
The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported Thursday (https://bit.ly/1DFqZ9e ) that the victim has been identified as 38-year-old Amparo Carina Velarde of Huntington Park.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Gray says while there have been no arrests in the slaying, a male acquaintance of Velarde is a person of interest. The man, who is in custody in a separate case, was not identified.
Citing the ongoing investigation, Gray didn’t say how Velarde was killed.
An employee with the Forest Service discovered the body March 3 along Mount Baldy Road.
Gray says Velarde’s 17-year-old son last saw her at their home a few days before.
