CHERRY VALLEY, N.Y. (AP) - State police say three people killed in a house fire in a rural upstate New York died of smoke inhalation.

Troopers identified the dead as 13-year-old Anthony Sabler, 20-year-old Gabrielle Sabler and 22-year-old Ashley Tefft.

They say the fire broke out around 3:45 a.m. at a two-story wooden house in Cherry Valley, 50 miles west of Albany.

An official at a church where the Sabler family worships told The Daily Star of Oneonta (https://bit.ly/1FpZ9wK ) that the parents, Doris and Frank Sabler, escaped and the father was burned trying to rescue the victims. He’s in fair condition Friday at a Syracuse hospital.

A fire department official said flames engulfed the house and the roof had collapsed before firefighters arrived.

The fire has been ruled accidental. The cause is being investigated.
