EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - A man who served 11 years for strangling his wife in the 1980s has been sentenced in Eugene to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing two girls for whom he and a second partner had been baby sitters.
Prosecutor Erik Hasselman said Thursday the sentence doesn’t allow early release and will probably ensure that Darrel Melvin Emra, now 69, won’t victimize anybody else.
The Register-Guard reports (https://bit.ly/1bTVRI9) that Emra killed 40-year-old Carol Emra in August 1986 after a dinner date and dumped her body into a river. He finished his sentence in 1997.
In January, the two girls told their mother he’d abused them in 2009.
Relatives of the victims said his sentence should have been longer, but they agreed to it so the children didn’t have to testify.
