MIDLAND, Texas (AP) - A man training to be a West Texas law officer has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for having sex with a girl enrolled in a police summer sports camp.
Mitchell Stephen Dailey of Odessa was sentenced Thursday in Midland. The 24-year-old former Odessa Police Department academy recruit in January pleaded guilty to enticing a minor female to engage in sexual activity.
Investigators say the 2014 case involved a 15-year-old girl who was enrolled in a six-week summer camp known as the Police Athletic League. Officers mentor students as part of sporting events to teach leadership and teamwork.
Prosecutors say Dailey had sexual relations with the girl several times last June, plus texted her sexually explicit photos of himself.
Dailey was arrested last July.
