MACON, Ga. (AP) - Agriculture officials say recent cold weather in central Georgia will reduce the amount of peaches produced this season.
University of Georgia Cooperative Extension agent Jeff Cook told the Telegraph of Macon Friday (https://bit.ly/1IbC7xa ) that producers in Peach and Taylor counties could lose roughly a third of the peaches in 10,000 acres of orchards.
Cook says there was no breeze during cold weather over the weekend to prevent frost from forming on the trees.
Crawford County farmer Robert Dickey says he recorded a low of 28 degrees at his orchards on Sunday and some of his trees were also damaged.
