SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital is asking a judge to force Sanford Health Plan to open all of its insurance plans to the hospital.

The hospital alleges that Sanford is violating a measure approved by voters last November that allows doctors to join an insurer’s preferred providers list if they agree to conditions set by the insurance company.

The Argus Leader reports (https://argusne.ws/1NMxREC ) the move counters Sanford’s request to the South Dakota Division of Insurance last month asking for an administrative law judge to determine whether Sanford’s insurance plans comply with the initiated measure. It was financed mainly by doctor-owned facilities such as Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital.

Sanford contends that it does comply with the so-called patient choice law.

The Specialty Hospital has asked the Insurance Division to dismiss Sanford’s request.
