MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) - Interstate 5 in the Mount Vernon, Washington, area was plagued by traffic crashes Friday afternoon. The State Patrol says a pileup in northbound lanes involved 18 vehicles and was caused by following too close.

Several other crashes were also reported, including in southbound lanes.

KING-TV reports the traffic backup at one point was more than 2 miles long.

The State Patrol says any injuries were minor.

Lanes were cleared by Friday evening.
