COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - A 43-year-old Council Bluffs man accused of kidnapping connected to the abuse of his developmentally disabled son has been sentenced to prison.

The Daily Nonpareil reports (https://bit.ly/1bTSykm ) that James Beyer pleaded guilty on Thursday to neglect of a dependent person. He was sentenced to 10 years, but a prosecutor says Beyer’s plea agreement includes a provision that the court review the sentence in a year.

Beyer was accused of abusing his 21-year-old son in early 2013. Beyer’s wife, Rebecca, also was convicted in connection with the abuse. She died of cancer last month while in prison custody.

Her son, Ryan Smith, was convicted of being an accessory. Smith was sentenced to 180 days in jail. He was credited for 29 days already served, and the remaining 151 days were suspended.
