DETROIT (AP) - A federal judge shot in the leg in March during an attempted robbery at his Detroit home has participated in an event to make the case for peace and solidarity.

U.S. District Judge Terrence Berg uses crutches and a wheelchair as he recovers from surgery. Friday’s “Walk for Hope” is a project of Berg and people from the Gesu Catholic Parish, where he’s a member.

Berg joined about 300 people at the church. The 55-year-old says he’s heartened to see “the community pull together” and called for ending “the scourge of gun violence.”

He and his wife have lived in Detroit for 26 years.

The FBI, U.S. Marshals Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are offering $50,000 for information leading to solving the case.
