HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A lawsuit by an angry taxpayer says Huntsville officials promised $4.7 million in rebates to Cabela’s outdoor super store in order to bring the retailer to the city.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1DEOgYH ) Huntsville resident Carl Fallin contends in his lawsuit that city documents obtained through an open records request show Huntsville tried to obscure its role in paying incentives by passing rebates through a local developer. The suit also accuses the city of paying “excessive and unreasonable prices” for property related to the deal.

Attorneys for the city of Huntsville have asked a court to dismiss the lawsuit, saying the deal was lawfully negotiated and approved by the city council.

Huntsville announced the Cabela’s deal last June and the store is expected to open this summer.
