LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles is testing new signs that supposedly will make it easier for drivers to understand confusing parking restrictions.
Mayor Eric Garcetti on Friday announced a six-month test of the signs. The first of about 100 signs was installed downtown.
The signs use green and red graphics to show the times of day that parking is allowed. No-parking times are in red.
Councilman Paul Krekorian, who proposed the sign redesign, says people shouldn’t have to read hieroglyphics to avoid a parking ticket.
The program also will include Bluetooth beacons that might allow motorists to receive parking information and pay for parking by smartphone.
The city has approved $20,000 to install and test the signs.
