WESTMINSTER, Calif. (AP) - A man who repeatedly stabbed an Orange County jogger while trying to steal her iPod has been convicted of attempted murder.

Twenty-year-old James Rivas of Rossmoor also was convicted Friday of assault with a deadly weapon and mayhem.

He faces up to 13 years in prison. City News Service says jurors deadlocked over a sentencing enhancement that would have led to a life sentence.

Prosecutors say Rivas was drunk when he ran up behind the 27-year-old woman in a Rossmoor neighborhood in 2012. He intended to steal her iPod but authorities say she turned around and faced him.

Prosecutors say Rivas then knocked down the woman and stabbed her in the face, back, arm and hand before she knocked the knife out of his hand.
