MEADVILLE, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania police officer on the lookout for “aggressive” drivers smashed his vehicle into a utility pole when something slid off his dashboard and became wedged in his steering wheel.
Vernon Township police Chief Randy Detzel (https://bit.ly/1GooA2Z ) tells the Meadville Tribune the department has asked the state police to review the crash because, “You don’t investigate your own house.”
The chief says Officer James Edwards wasn’t hurt in the crash about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
The chief says Edwards was parked along Route 322 when he attempted to pull onto the highway to follow a vehicle as part of a detail targeting “aggressive” drivers.
The chief isn’t saying what kind of object jammed the police SUV’s steering wheel. The damage to the vehicle and the pole also weren’t being released.
