ELYRIA, Ohio (AP) - A northeast Ohio man who authorities say robbed two banks and called in a bomb threat at a high school has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Court documents say 41-year-old Brett Benson of Avon robbed two Elyria (eh-LEER’-ee-uh) banks in March 2014, taking more than $2,000 from each. He later called in a bomb threat to Elyria High School that led to the school’s evacuation.
Police say they found Benson walking along a road with a large amount of money after the second robbery on March 24, 2014.
He pleaded guilty to one count of unarmed robbery in December.
Benson was also sentenced Thursday to three years of probation and ordered to pay nearly $3,500 in restitution.
A message to Benson’s attorney seeking comment wasn’t immediately returned Friday.
