CLEVELAND (AP) - A Cleveland man has been sentenced to nearly 13 years in federal prison for filing false tax returns that claimed $2 million in refunds.

Forty-eight-year-old Kenneth White was sentenced Friday in Cleveland. A jury convicted White of conspiracy to defraud the government in October, and he was ordered to pay $342,000 in restitution.

His attorney declined to comment on Friday.

A spokesman for the U.S. attorney says White recruited people to use as claimants on tax returns with the promise of large refunds. The spokesman says White also got names, Social Security numbers and other identifying information of people in jail and prison for returns.

Thirty-two-year-old Gwendolyn White, who was accused of helping White, was previously sentenced to four years in prison. She isn’t related to Kenneth White.
