SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - An Orange County man has been sentenced to jail for his role in an illegal street race that killed an 18-year-old woman.

Prosecutors say Joshua Lautherboren of Garden Grove was sentenced Friday to nine months in jail. He was convicted last year of causing an injury while racing and hit-and-run causing death.

Authorities say Lautherboren and Jorel Dayoan of Westminster got into a street race in April 2012 in Westminster. After a quarter-mile, Lautherboren slowed down but Dayoan lost control of his Toyota MR-2, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Honda Accord.

The crash injured the other driver and killed Dayoan’s sister, Jessica, who was a passenger in her brother’s car.

Dayoan was convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter and sentenced in February to a year in jail.
