SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (AP) - A self-described “pigeon man” avoided his house on Tuesday as a crew demolished the home he built for more than 200 of his beloved birds.
The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/1xFFc4M) that a district judge put an end to a four year battle between 75-year-old Boris Majnaric and the city of South Jordan last week by refusing to stop the demolition.
Majnaric, a retired schoolteacher, said caring for the pigeons was a childhood dream come true.
He kept more than five times the city’s limit of 40 pigeons in a 384-square-foot, four-room loft in his backyard, prompting his neighbors to complain to local officials.
City officials said they decided to demolish Majnaric’s handmade loft after he failed to comply with numerous court orders to reduce the pigeon population.
