PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A police investigation has determined that the driver of a bus that struck and killed a 9-year-old girl in Providence did nothing wrong.
The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority bus struck Ani Emdjian at about 8:40 a.m. on March 26 as she ran across Smith Street. She was taken to the hospital where she died. Her father was with her at the time.
Police on Friday announced that the driver, 42-year-old Eric Seaberg, was driving below the 25 mph speed limit and there was “no operator error.” Preliminary toxicology tests showed he was not impaired and an examination of the bus showed no mechanical problems.
The investigation was based on video from the bus’s dash camera and two area businesses, as well as witness interviews.
The state attorney general is reviewing the case.
