MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - Bail has been set at $3 million for a 28-year-old Medford, Oregon, man accused of three bank robberies in the past 11 months, including one earlier this week in which the robber menaced bank employees with a sawed-off shotgun.
Medford police Deputy Chief Brett Johnson told reporters Friday that Jeffrey Edward Ownby was arrested Thursday by SWAT officers at his house. Johnson says social media tips and high-quality surveillance video helped in the investigation of Wednesday’s robbery at an American West Bank branch on Crater Lake Highway.
The Mail Tribune reports (https://is.gd/JrLoac ) that police found two apparently homemade bombs at the man’s house, as well as clothing seen in past surveillance videos. Police say the man has no criminal history.
Ownby was arraigned Friday in Circuit Court. He’s jailed on counts including robbery and theft.
Investigators say they’ve also tied Ownby to a Dec. 22, 2014, robbery at Washington Federal Bank and a May 16, 2014, robbery at Bank of the Cascades.
