SALEM, Ore. (AP) - A second man has been convicted of murder and robbery in what prosecutors said was the result of a plot to take a Silverton man’s new inheritance.
A jury in Salem found 24-year-old Andrew James Slover guilty Thursday in the killing of 30-year-old Jeffrey Edward Lamoreaux. Authorities said the landscaper was shot in the head with a sawed-off rifle.
The Statesman Journal reports (https://stjr.nl/1IvIsju) sentencing is scheduled Tuesday.
In July, 22-year-old Uriah Michael Dean McKinley pleaded guilty and got a life sentence, with a minimum of 25 years. He also faced weapons and methamphetamine charges.
Prosecutor Amy Queen said the men emptied two safes in Lamoreaux’s mobile home in December 2013, split the money and burned their clothes.
The defense argued Slover didn’t intend to be a party to killing.
