PETALUMA, Calif. (AP) - A small plane crashed in a rural area of Northern California, killing the pilot.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat (https://bit.ly/1yKnoAF) reports the ultralight aircraft went down in a field near the Petaluma Municipal Airport Friday afternoon.

Sonoma County Sheriff’s Lt. Greg Miller said the pilot of the craft was confirmed dead.

No one else was injured. The pilot’s name was not released pending notification of his family.

The newspaper reported that multiple witnesses described watching the aircraft spiral toward the ground.
