SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Springfield police have charged a man with murdering a city teenager last week.
Officers say they executed a search warrant at an apartment Thursday evening and arrested four people after finding two loaded handguns, 16 grams of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Police charged one of the suspects, 22-year-old Lee Manuel Rios, with murdering 18-year-old Kenneth Lopez on March 25.
The four suspects were to be arraigned Friday in Springfield District Court. Rios was charged with murder, robbery, drug crimes and other offenses. Police lodged drug and weapon charges against 23-year-old Nelson Rios, 21-year-old Natalia Rivera and 25-year-old Maria Torres.
Police said the shooting of Lopez was gang-related, but declined to elaborate.
The suspects’ response to the allegations is unknown. They’re detained and it’s not clear if they have lawyers.
