THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A resolution requesting Thibodaux City Councilman Chip Badeaux’s resignation is on the agenda for Tuesday’s council meeting.

The Daily Comet reports (https://bit.ly/1yK9Rcm) Councilman Chad Mire proposed the resolution, which references court documents where Badeaux pleaded guilty to federal hunting violations.

Mire said Badeaux’s actions are an embarrassment.

Badeaux has said he would not resign.

Councilwoman Constance Johnson said she did not have a comment about whether she supports the resolution.

On March 10, Badeaux, 67, pleaded guilty in federal court to hunting ducks with lead shot on opening day and violating a three-year federal probation that included a hunting ban, according to the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Badeaux was fined $560 for hunting with lead shot and sentenced to 30 days in jail for violating a three-year hunting probation imposed after he shot and killed 48 black-bellied whistling ducks near Dularge in 2011. At the time, the state restricted hunters to killing six migratory birds a day, and only four mallards a day.

He is expected to report to federal prison on April 10.

Because Badeaux’s convictions are misdemeanors, he is allowed to continue serving on the council under the city’s Home Rule Charter.

Mire said the council can only go so far as asking for Badeaux to resign.

“From that point, we’ll just move on and it will be up for the voters to decide,” he said.
