FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Forest officials are looking for volunteers to help replant some 5,000 ponderosa pine trees in an area scorched by a wildfire in 2010.

The Schultz Fire burned 15,000 acres north of Flagstaff, forcing the evacuation of hundreds of homes. A teenage girl died in the flooding that followed.

The Coconino National Forest’s Flagstaff Ranger District has organized two public events on April 11 and April 18 to replant trees.

The work is expected to take up to five hours each day. Forest officials say volunteers should be prepared physically for the activity, and wear long pants, sturdy shoes and sunscreen.

Volunteers also will be removing protective coverings from around trees that previously were planted.
