EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A West Texas man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for using his car repair business to launder drug money.
Eduardo Herrera was sentenced this week by a federal judge in El Paso after having earlier this year pleaded guilty to one count of money laundering.
According to court documents, the 54-year-old Herrera used his business, Best for Less Collision Center, to funnel more than $2 million in drug proceeds through third party accounts.
Prosecutors say the money was from cocaine and marijuana that had been smuggled from Mexico into the Jacksonville, Florida area. The proceeds were sent to El Paso through numerous funnel accounts held in third parties’ names.
Herrera’s sentence also included a $1 million money judgment and he was ordered to forfeit his business.
