BURGAW, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in Pender County have arrested the mother of a 4-month-old girl who investigators say was dropped off at a hospital with critical injuries.
Local media outlets report 31-year-old Cassie Ann Cliff was arrested by sheriff’s deputies on Friday after her car was located by New Hanover County sheriff’s deputies.
According to the Pender County Sheriff’s Office, Cliff left her 4-month-old daughter at New Hanover Regional Medical Center on Wednesday after a preliminary interview.
A statement from the sheriff’s office said the infant was taken to the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill, where she is listed in critical condition following an examination.
The sheriff’s office said bail hasn’t been set for Cliff and it’s not known if she has an attorney.
